Optomap Retinal Imaging

This technology allows the doctor to take a wide-field photograph of the inside of your eyes without the use of dilation drops. We recommend having these images done yearly so that we can monitor your retina for changes.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

A new glasses prescription is just one small part of a comprehensive eye examination!

Using a variety of tests, we will evaluate the health of your eyes and your visual system.
A comprehensive examination includes:
  • Preliminary Testing: May include testing for depth perception, color vision, eye muscle movements, peripheral or side vision, and the way your pupils respond to light.
  • Vision Testing: Includes visual acuity and refraction, which is how we determine your new glasses prescription.
  • Intraocular pressure measurement, this aids us in evaluating your risk for developing glaucoma.
  • Ocular Health Evaluation: We will assess your eyes for common disorders such as Dry Eye Syndrome, Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma.
We highly recommend Digital Retinal Imaging to further aid our doctors in evaluating the health of your retina.

Optomap Retinal Imaging

The optomap is a digital image of the retina produced by Optos scanning laser technology. It is the only technology that can capture up to 82% view of your retina at one time (as opposed to a 15% view without dilation or imaging).
  • Is about as fast as taking a picture
  • DOES NOT REQUIRE DILATING DROPS. There are no side effects such as blurry vision and light sensitivity after having this testing done.
  • Will be saved in your file enabling your optometrist to make important comparisons during your annual eye exam.
This screening procedure can monitor for retinal complications including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal holes or detachments. It will also detect problems unrelated to the eye that may show early signs in the retina such as hypertension, cancer/tumors, auto-immune disorders, and others.

Contact Lens Evaluations

A contact lens examination involves additional testing to make sure that we are prescribing the best contact lenses to meet your lifestyle needs.
We recommend evaluating the fit of your contact lens as well the effect that the contact lens has on your eyes yearly. Occasionally, even if you feel that the contact lenses are working well, your eyes might tell us a different story.

You doctor will evaluate:
  • Your vision with the contact lenses on and whether or not it can be improved with a new power
  • The fit of the contact lenses on your cornea
  • How your eye is responding to the material that your contact lens is made of, particularly, if your eyes are getting enough oxygen and moisture.
Please bring your contact lenses, as well as a written prescription or the boxes, with you to your appointment.
